| NCFSDC MEETING MINUTES NOVEMBER 06, 2004 The November meeting of the NCFSDC was called to order at 2:50 pm by President Derwood Thompson. The meeting was held at the Old Boarding House Restaurant in Trenton, FL. Seventeen members were present and seven Studebakers and one Packard were driven. The Studebakers included a 1957 Golden Hawk driven by the Fairchilds, a 1962 Lark driven by Danny Thomas, a 1964 Lark Cruiser driven by the Scarabinos, a 1964 Daytona Convertible driven by Stephen Cade, a 1964 Challenger driven by the Tuckers, a 1962 Lark driven by Martha Cade, and a 1964 Daytona driven by the Matts. The 1950 Packard was driven by Joy and Ken Williams, attending their first meeting. The first order of business was the approval of the minutes from the August meeting. (Note that meetings were not held in September and October.) Danny Thomas motioned that the minutes be approved as written and the motion was seconded by Bill Delli. The minutes were approved by a unanimous voice vote. Ronda Scarabino reported that after accounting for the memorial fund for Roy Mays, the balance of the treasury was $XXX.XX (See details on page 7 of this newsletter.) Bill Delli reported that the Chapter had 48 dues paid to date. Other old business included a discussion about the meet hotel for the 2006 Southeast Zone Meet. Martha Cade reported that three hotels were being considered, all in Gainesville. They were the Paramount, the Hilton and the Best Western. Martha, Nancy Thompson, Derwood Thompson and Stephen Cade will visit each hotel and start negotiations to decide which hotel to use. It was a general consensus of the members present that the search should be narrowed to the Hilton and the Best Western. The meeting was opened for new business. Danny Thomas asked if anyone was accessing the Chapter's website and wondered if maintaining the website was worth the cost. The cost is $12.50 per month. Several members indicated that they did view the website, but it was noted that the website did not seem to be drawing in new members. It was verified that the local website is tied to the national website. It was mentioned that the website would be valuable when preparations for the 2006 Southeast Zone Meet get underway. It was agreed to keep the website to support the Zone Meet that is being hosted by the NCFSDC. President Thompson informed everyone that there was a shakeup in the National SDC committee for the annual International SDC Meet. All, bid one, of the current committee members have resigned. The new chairman will be Richard Dormois. Apparently, the cause for the change is general dissatisfaction with the management company that has been involved with past International Meets. High hotel rates have been experienced as a result of the management company's involvement and the percentage of the room price that has been retained by the management company. Local clubs also were not allowed to have significant input into the decisions. There should be some news about this in the next TURNING WHEELS. It was reported that Paul Oliver is in ill health and is selling his cars, which include a beautiful Studebaker. Paul Oliver's address and telephone number are in the Chapter Roster. Derwood recounted that Nancy and he had taken Dr. Cade's Studebaker, "Old Spot," to the South Georgia Sweet Potato Festival in Ocilla GA. Nancy, in particular, had a "good" time. If anyone happens to see Nancy, be sure to ask her about the Sweet Potato Festival. Everyone was reminded that the election of Chapter officers for 2005 will take place at the December meeting. Will no further business, the meeting was adjourned after a motion by George Matt, which was seconded by Georgia Matt, was approved by a unanimous voice vote. |
