NCFCSDC
SEPTEMBER 2003
MEETING MINUTES
The September meeting of the North Central Florida Chapter Studebaker Drivers Club (NCFCSDC) was held at the Seabreeze Restaurant in Cedar Key, Florida, after a scavenger hunt through the countryside from downtown Williston, Florida. President Edith Fifer convened the meeting at 2:00 p.m. after an enjoyable lunch and the presentation of prizes for the scavenger hunt.
Twenty members were present. six Studebakers were driven to the meeting. These included a 1963 GT Hawk, a 1961 Hawk, a 1954 Wagon, a 1957 Golden Hawk, a 1964 Lark and a 1964 Daytona.
President Fifer introduced new member Don Hoaglund who attended with his son Scott. President Fifer also thanked Bill and Charlotte Delli for setting up the mystery meeting and scavenger hunt.
The first order of business was to approve the minutes from the August meeting. Stephen Cade made a motion that the minutes be approved as published and it was seconded by Martha Cade. The motion passed by a unanimous voice vote.
Bill Delli, membership chairman, reported that there are 43 paid memberships with a total of 76 active members. A treasury report was not available.
Under old business, Stephen Cade provided an update for the chapter sponsored car show planned for October 2003. Stephen explained that the name for the event would be a car show. Apparently, it was confusing because the plan to charge a registration fee and provide trophies made it more than a cruise-in. He stated that he had checked with others and recommended that it would be better to call the event a car show. He reported that we would have to select another date because there mere too many conflicts with other events in the Gainesville area at the end of October. It was agreed that there were too many things going on in October and, with the holidays in November and December, there would not be a good date before the end of 2003.
The possibility of having the car show in January was discussed. The first weekend in January and Super Bowl weekend would not be good. The committee agreed to check on competing events in the middle weekends of January and report the best date at the October meeting. It was clarified that Sandy's Place, the location previously selected for the car show, could accommodate the car show any weekend selected by the Chapter. The car show will be open to all cars, not restricted to orphan cars. Orphan car shows are limited to manufacturers no longer in business. The name for the show will have to be determined.
Martha Cade requested information about the plan for the February meeting. It will be at Rainbow River Resort and is sponsored by Ann and Charles Grant It will be a two-day event on the first full weekend in February 2004.
It was agreed that the October meeting of NCFCSDC will be at the Florida State Meet at Deerfield Beach, Florida. The meeting will be on Saturday, the 11th , and the time and place for the Chapter meeting will be posted on a message board at the hotel.
President Fifer opened discussion about the use of the Chapter logo, which is a registered trademark to the NCFCSDC on products specifically made for Chapter use. Derwood Thompson raised the issue because he had some hats made for Chapter members to buy at cost. The hats had the Chapter logo affixed to them. When the trademark was registered, it was planned to charge a nominal fee for its use. This application, however, was for others who wished to use the logo. It was agreed that since the hats were for Chapter members and they would be provided at cost, a fee for using the logo would not be necessary. Derwood has the hats available in red and blue for $10.00 for anyone who would like them. The $10.00 is the actual cost of the hats. President Fifer thanked Derwood for pursuing this for the Chapter members.
Moving on to other business, President Fifer requested that members consider what they would like to do for the 2006 Southeast Zone Meet. Charlotte Delli, chairperson for the meet, reported that she had received very few volunteers to date. Charlotte also reported that, thanks to Nancy Thompson, she had been contacted by Nancy Fisher from the Alachua County Tourism Bureau. There is a possibility that a grant could be obtained to help with costs for the 2006 Southeast Zone Meet. If the Chapter is interested in trying to get this grant, Charlotte will attend a meeting on September 8, 2003 to find out more about it and how to apply for the graft If we are given a grant, the hotel for the meet will have to be in Alachua county. It was also pointed out that the Alachua Tourism Bureau will help find hotels and negotiate terms and prices for to meet Based on a motion by Danny Thomas, Charlotte was authorized to pursue the grant for the Chapter.
Martha Cade announced that she had received a postcard from the Collins in Phoenix, Arizona The Collins wished the Chapter good luck with the cruise in and indicated that they hoped the toys they had donated for door prizes were WPM.
The next order of business was to decide where the official Chapter records would be maintained. There is no specific place for keeping the records. It was agreed that the Chapter secretary would maintain those records Charlotte volunteered to establish a log of all items being maintained so that a record is available when the items are transferred to a new secretary.
With no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
