NCFSDC AUGUST MEETING MINUTES

The August meeting of the NCFSDC was called to order at 2:00 p.m. on August 10, 2003 at the home of Sue and Gerald Tucker in Fort White, FL. 23 members were present. Four Studebakers were driven to the meeting. These included a 1964 GT Hawk, a 1963 GT Hawk, a 1964 Daytona and a 1963 Avanti. Special guest Sandar Bereira, an exchange student from Brazil, also attended.

To start the meeting, President Fifer extended thanks to Sue and Gerald Tucker for hosting the meeting. Letting us invade their living room was appreciated, especially since it had started to rain heavily.

The first order of business was to approve the minutes from the June meeting that were published in the newsletter. Derwood Thompson made a motion that was seconded by Martha Cade that the minutes be approved as published. The minutes were approved by a unanimous voice vote.

Charlotte Deli announced that the Hogtown won third place our of 19 newsletters at the National SDC Meet in Sacramento.

Old business was then addressed. The cruise-in to be sponsored by the NCFSDC in October was the first Rem to be discussed. October 11th was the preferred date, but the Florida State Meet will be held at the same time. Derwood Thompson made a motion that the cruise-in be held on October 25, 2003 and Danny Thomas seconded. It was approved by a unanimous voice vote. The cruise-in will be held at Sandy's Place, a restaurant in Gainesville.

Planning details for the cruise-in were discussed. Danny Thomas will be responsible for the flyers, dash plaques, and judging sheets. It was agreed that judging will be people's choice. 300 flyers will needed along with 150 ballots. The registration form will be included on the flyer. Trophies will go to the top 20 cars along with some special awards such as Sandy's choice. New trophies will be needed for the top 20. Three existing trophies made by Jerry Nowicki will be modified for the special classes.

The registration fee was discussed. NCFSDC has allocated $500 from the treasury, but more will be needed to meet expenses since trophies, dash plaques, door prizes and a DJ must be covered. Several options were considered. It was agreed that $10.00 would be charged for the first car, $5.00 for the second and nothing for any additional cars. Only those vehicles registered will get a dash plaque and goody bag and be eligible for trophies.

Martha Cade reminded everyone that door prizes could be donated and encouraged everyone to obtain donations. The Collins from Arizona have donated a Studebaker sleigh and a new model car to the club to help. The cruise-in committee was authorized to order door prizes . from the Studebaker National Catalog with club funds.

President Fifer reminded everyone that the volunteer form for the 2006 Southeast Zone meet should be sent to Charlotte Delli. E-mailing delli35@yahoo.com is another way to volunteer.
Derwood Thompson reported on the Director and Officer meetings he attended during the International SDC Meet. He included the following items of interest in his report: The SDC is setting up a nonprofit foundation. Any events sanctioned by a local club are fully insured through the SDC. The club must advise SDC in writing for the coverage. SDC needs a webmaster. It is a paid position and bids are being accepted. SDC bylaws have been revised to 19 pages. SDC will be established a four-year scholarship to study mechanical engineering or related fields. Members and their families will be eligible.

President Fifer ended the meeting by providing information about the Turkey Run (formerly Turkey Rod Run) to be held Thanksgiving week in Daytona Beach. Last year there were over 5,000 cars. She encouraged everyone to attend.
