NORTH CENTRAL FLORIDA STUDEBAKER DRIVERS CLUB The June meeting of the North Central Florida Chapter of the Studebaker Drivers Club (NCFSDC) was held in the Anastasia State Park, St. Augustine, FL. The meeting was called to order by President Edith Fifer at 12:30 p.m. on June 7, 2003. Seventeen members were present with seven Studebakers. The Studebakers that were driven to the meeting included a 1952 Commander, a 1956 President Classic, a 1962 Cruiser, a 1963 Avanti, a 1963 GT Hawk, a 1964 Daytona and a 1981 Avanti. The first order of business was the approval of the minutes from the May meeting. Danny Thomas made a motion that the minutes be approved as published in the newsletter. Bill Delli seconded the motion and it was approved, without discussion, by a unanimous voice vote. Barrie Thelin, Treasurer, provided the report on the amount in the treasury. (Editor's note: The Treasurer's report is published separately on page 7 of this newsletter. Bill Delli, Membership Director, reported that 40 families with 71 individual members have paid dues for 2003. He also provided copies of the current club roster to those present at the meeting. Copies of the roster will be mailed to everyone else. President Fifer then opened the meeting to old business. The first item for discussion was the NCFSDC sponsored cruise-in to be held in October. It was agreed that the cruise-in would not be held on any weekend that had a home game for the University of Florida football tem. Martha Cade indicated that the only home game in October will be on the fourth. It was not known when the Florida State Studebaker Meet is to be held. President Fifer stated that she had not been successful in obtaining any information, but she would keep trying. Depending upon when the Florida State Meet is held, the 11th, 18th, and the 25th are available for the cruise-in. While it was agreed that Saturday, October 11, would be the preferred date, no action was taken pending the information for the State Meet. Stephen Cade, with the help of Danny Thomas and Martha Cade, will make the arrangements for the cruise-in. Martha Cade stated that there are trophies left over from a previous meet that could be adapted for the cruise-in. It was decided that the judging will be based on people's choice and that dash plaques, with Studebakers, will be provided to cruise-in participants. Food will be made available at Sandy's Restaurant, which is allowing the club to use the restaurant's parking lot for the cruise-in. A disc jockey will be hired. Ile one used at a previous state meet is preferred. The cruise-in is not restricted to Studebakers and flyers will be sent to all of the car clubs -in the area. Street rods also will be welcome, $500 will be allocated from the club treasury to sponsor the cruise-in. Any ideas or suggestions can be sent to Stephen Cade. Other old business included the previously approved amendment of the By-laws to include the honored member category. Copies of the proposed amendment were provided to the members present. A motion was made by George Matt and seconded by Georgia Matt that the proposed amendment be approved. It was approved by a I s voice vote. Charlotte Delli will forward the revised by-laws to the national SDC. New business included the discussion of the Southeast Zone Meet in 2006. The NCFSDC is sponsoring the meet. Copies of the policy statement from the national SDC, which were provided by Edward Burns, were handed out. Volunteers will be needed. Charlotte Delli volunteered to be the meet chairperson. She has a time chart for the tasks needed to host a meet, which she handed out. Everyone will review the chart and it will be discussed and updated at the August meeting of the NCFSDC. President Fifer announced that Frank Miles, NCFSDC member, is the new Florida Regional Manager. Although he could not attend the June meeting he did send his congratulations to the NCFSDC for volunteering to host a Zone Meet and offered to help with anything special the club needs. He also announced that a new SDC chapter is being formed in the northwest part of Florida. It will be called the Gulf Coast Chapter. The chapter has 20 to 25 members at present and will have a newsletter called the Gulf Coast Cruiser. The charter has to be approved and the first chapter meeting will be soon. Perhaps, a joint meeting with the NCFSDC could be held in the near future. The final issue of business concerned the Christmas party held for the NCFSDC every December. Stephen Cade made a motion that the Christmas party and meeting be held at Catfish Johnny's near Lake Panasoffkee, FL, as an annual event in the first or second week in December. Roger Thelin seconded the motion. Derwood Thompson was not present at the meeting but he had indicated that he would host the party for 2003. The motioned was approved by a unanimous voice vote. It was agreed that the party and meeting would be held on December 6, 2003. With no further business, the meeting was adjourned to a picnic hosted by the Northeast Florida Chapter. |
