NCFSDC MEETING MINUTES
FEBRUARY 2003
The February meeting of the NCFSDC was called to order by President Edith Fifer at 1:00 p.m. on February 5, 2003. The meeting was held at the Rainbow River Resort, Florida. 17 members were present. 6 Studebakers were driven to the meeting. They included a 1937 Coupe Express, a 1947 Champion convertible, a 1955 Speedster, a 1963 Avanti, a 1963 GT Hawk, and a 1964 Lark Cruiser.
The first order of business was to thank Charles and Ann Grant for hosting the meeting. They made all of the arrangements for the pontoon boat ride, the cabins, the cruise-in and the meeting with lunch.
Old business was considered first with the approval of the January meeting minutes. Derwood Thompson made a motion that the minutes be approved as published in the club newsletter. The motion was seconded and approved by a unanimous voice vote.
A treasurer's report was not available. An updated report will be printed in the next edition of the Hogtown Headlights.
Continuing with old business, the meeting calendar was discussed. President Fifer informed everyone that Stephen Cade arranged April 12, 2003 as the date for the combined meeting with the South Georgia Chapter SDC. It was agreed that the meeting would start at noon at the Cade's pole barn in Newberry FL.
The March meeting also was discussed. It is the mystery meeting which will start at the gazebo in Williston FL. There will be a highway scavenger hunt like last years. Bill Delli stated that everyone would meet at noon to start. If there is a change to the start time, it will be published in the newsletter. A question was raised about drawing names for teams to share a car. Bill indicated that whatever the members wanted to do would be all right.
The May meeting at The Gathering in Lake City, FL will be May 4, 2003. Dee and Ernie Keith will host.
There was a question about the June meeting since it occurred in the same month as the National SDC meet in Sacramento. If there is a local club meeting, it would have to be early in June or a meeting could be deleted for July. It also was noted that the Lumpkins have issued an invitation for the fall. The issue was tabled until another meeting.
Members were advised that if the last issue of the newsletter contained a red star, dues were not paid for 2003.
New business was introduced. President Fifer reminded everyone that election ballots were included in the February Turning Wheels and that votes had to be submitted no later than April 1, 2003.
Other new business concerned a letter sent to the club by Bill Schettino. Bill resigned his membership because he is moving out of the area. He sent a disk with the logo design so that it can be used by club members to produce shirts.
A problem concerning the registration of the club's logo as a trademark was identified. Bill Schettino, originally paid the registration fee with a personal check. This was reimbursed by the NCFSDC. His check was mailed at the same time as the anthrax scare and ended up in a file in the post office, without notifying Bill. By the time the check was forwarded by the post office, Bill had closed his checking in preparation to move. As a result, the check did not clear and the logo was not registered and protected. Bill paid again using an automated system and a credit card. He has received confirmation that the logo is now protected. President Fifer noted that even though Bill cannot attend the meetings, he would like to continue to receive the newsletter. (Editor's note: Bill has paid dues for 2003 and will continue to receive the newsletter.)
With all business concluded, the meeting was adjourned by a unanimous voice vote. |
