NCFSDC Meeting Minutes
January 2003

The January meeting of the NCFSDC was called to order by President Edith Fifer at 2:00 p.m. on January 12, 2003 at the Pomodoro Cafe in Gainesville, FL.

45 members were present. There were 9 Studebakers driven to the meeting: a 1964 Lark Cruiser, a 1947 Champion convertible, two 1964 Daytonas, a 1951 2-door, a 1963 Avanti, a 1964 GT Hawk, a 1963 Lark and a 1937 Coupe Express.

Approval of the minutes of the December meeting was the first order of business. Bob Marsh made a motion that the minutes be approved as published in the January issue of the Hogtown Headlights. Charles Grant seconded. The motion was approved by a unanimous voice vote.

President Fifer introduced the NCFSDC officers for 2003: President Edith Fifer, Vice President Derwood Thompson, Treasurer Barrie Thelin, Secretary and Newsletter Editor Charlotte Delli, Membership Director Bill Delli, Tourmaster Roger Thelin and Funds Raiser Ronda Scarabino.

Old business was discussed. First, a discussion took place about the logistics of the February meeting. A two-day event is planned with hosts Ann and Charles Grant at the Rainbow River Resort. Charles explained that he has reserved four cabins for January 23rd and four cabins for February 1st. If they are available, more cabins can be rented. The cabins have two separate bedrooms one with a full size bed and one with two twin beds. There is a couch that pulls out for a bed and a complete kitchen. The cost for the whole cabin no matter how many stay in it is $58 per night if two nights are rented and $75 per night for one night only. There are no RV hookups but Charles said that RVs that are self contained could be parked at his house which is near the resort.

After much discussion about the various scenarios for the two days, it was decided that most of the activities would take place on Saturday, February 16th. The plan is for the pontoon boat ride on the Rainbow River to start at 8:00 a.m. followed by the business meeting at the pavilion. The pontoon ride takes about 4 hours. The meeting will start at 1:00 p.m. with lunch afterwards. Another pontoon ride will be on Sunday, February 2nd.

There will be a grill at the pavilion. A covered dish and the meat of choice should be brought for the lunch. Drinks and utensils will be provided. Charles stressed that no alcoholic beverages are allowed in the resort. He also handed out directions and brochures for the resort.

It was agreed that members interested in the cabins would make arrangements directly with Charles at (352) 465-0555. The fee for the pontoon boat was discussed. President Fifer asked if the club wanted to pay the $40 fee. Ronda Scarabino motioned that the club pay the fee with a second by Jerry Fairchild. The motion was approved unanimously by a voice vote.

The next item of old business was the discussion of the handouts from the SDC to promote club membership. Charlotte Delli provided a NCFSDC membership application to be added to the pamphlet. President Fifer requested that each member take one or two of the pamphlets and keep them in their cars so that they will have information to give to people who- show interest in Studebakers.

President Fifer then explained that she sent an e-mail to the West Tennessee Chapter SDC about the Southeast Zone Meet in 2005. The response indicated that planning was not complete. They will let President Fifer know when details are available. At the January meeting, NCFSDC members indicated that they would be willing to help with the Zone Meet.

In addition, President Fifer indicated that she had e-mailed the Jacksonville Chapter SDC about a combined cruise-in. She told them that January was not a good time but that NCFSDC members would be interested in setting up another time. She has not received a response yet.

The floor was opened for new business. President Fifer reminded everyone that the NCFSDC web site should be checked frequently. Danny Thomas maintains the web site for the club. He reported that over 4000 hits have been recorded for the site since its start. He stated that he was working on faster downloading for the site. President Fifer also informed everyone that THE SDC web site is exhibiting photos by Jeff Rice, NCFSDC member.

The meeting continued with a reminder that everyone needs to pay dues for 2003. Bill Delli reported that a little over half of the members have paid dues.

Discussion about the March, April and May meetings took place. It was agreed that the March meeting will be on Sunday, the 9th. The date for the joint meeting with the South
Georgia SDC in April has not been finalized, but it will be on a Saturday. The May meeting will be at The Gathering in Lake City, FL, hosts are Ernie and Dee Keith. It was agreed the meeting will be held on May 4th to avoid a conflict with Mothers Day. Charles and Ann Grant propose plan for the February meeting.

One last point of clarification for the February meeting was raised by Charles Grant. He wanted to make sure that even if bad weather caused the cancellation of the
pontoon boat ride that the meeting and dinner would still be held. It was decided that the meeting and dinner would take place even if the pontoon ride did not.

President Fifer requested that everyone check the club roster and make sure that their
information is correct. She also reminded everyone that the contents of the roster should not be released. There is a notice on the roster to this effect. She recalled that a member of another car club, not SDC's, sold their roster for $10 a name and caused a great deal of trouble. This is an infringement of privacy.

With a reminder that members should contribute to the newsletter and help the editor, the meeting was adjourned by a unanimous voice vote.
