NCFSDC MEETING MINUTES
DECEMBER 2002

The December meeting of the NCFSDC was called to order by President Edith Fifer at 7:00 pm, December 7, 2002 at the Sunny Buffet in Port Richey, FL. The meeting was combined with the NCFSDC's annual holiday party and gift exchange.

Nineteen members were present for the meeting. Studebakers included a 1964 Daytona, a 1956 Sky Hawk, a 1964 Lark, a 1951 Champion and a 1963 Avanti.

After enjoying a delicious meal from a buffet hat ranged from American to Asian cuisine, he meeting was started. The first order of business was the approval of the minutes from the October and November meetings hat were published in the monthly newsletter. Derwood Thompson motioned that the minutes be approved as written. George Matt seconded the motion. The the motion passed by unanimous voice vote.

Barrie Thelin provided the treasurers report. This report can be found on page 7 of his newsletter.

President Fifer reminded everyone that dues for 2003 NCFSDC membership should be sent to Bill Delli, membership director. They are due January 1, 2003.

She continued the meeting by remarking hat members were fortunate to have a club such as the NCFSDC. At the Turkey Rod Run in November at Daytona, President Fifer had he chance to have a heart to heart talk with members of other SDC clubs. After providing copies of the NCFSDC newsletter to these members, she was surprised to learn that the NCFSDC is more active and provides more activities for members than other Florida clubs The other club members told her that hey were going back to their own clubs and try to get them to do some of the activities they have read about in the Hogtown Headlights. One young man told her that he contacts his club's president once or twice a month with ideas, but the president never gets back to him or supports the ideas. It was noted that NCFSDC members deserved an "attaboy" for being so active and interested in their club. All members applauded loudly.

Election of officers for 2003 was the next item of business. A ballot with the candidates nominated at the November meeting was available for voting. All of the candidates are incumbents currently serving in the officer positions. President Fifer opened the nominations to anyone who wanted to volunteer or add to the candidates on the ballet. She encouraged everyone to participate. Roger Thelin stated that he thought the club had re-elected the incumbents at the November meeting at the Tucker's house. It was clarified that it was only agreed to include the incumbents on the ballot at the November meeting. There were no additional nominations. It was unanimously agreed that the incumbents from 2002 be re-elected for 2003.

The schedule for future meetings was discussed. Roger Thelin suggested that the January meeting be held at the Pomodoro CA in Gainesville, FL. It was verified that the club wished to continue alternating from Saturday -to Sunday for the monthly meetings whenever practical. President Fifer indicated that the Jacksonville Chapter SDC has invited the club to a cruise-in caravan with a picnic at the end, probably in the middle or later part of January. Specific details will be determined after it is known whether the NCFSDC wants to participate. After much discussion, it was agreed that it was too short a notice for January but the NCFSDC would like to do the cruise-in. Stephen Cade motioned with Danny Thomas seconding that the NCFSDC do the cruise-in with the Jacksonville SDC but at another time. The motion was approved unanimously by a voice vote. It was also agreed that the January meeting would be held January 12, 2003 at the Pomodoro Cafe Roger Thelin will make the arrangements.

The discussion about future meetings continued. The February meeting will be hosted by Charles Grant at the Rainbow River Resort. Based on previous discussions with NCFSDC members, a two-day event is planned. There are 5 to 7 cabins available for the overnight stay. Charles has reserved these for club members. Members who are planning to spend the night should let Roger Thelin know by January 10, 2003.

Details will be in the January newsletter to be published at the end of December. President Fifer mentioned the possibility of sponsoring an orphaned car show in March, 2003. The discussion of the show was tabled for a later meeting. Charlotte Delli asked if the members would like to have another mystery meeting. With the positive response, she and Bill volunteered to set up a mystery meeting for March while the weather was still cool. It was also mentioned that the Gathering Place in Lake City, FL would be a good place for the May meeting. The meeting in April will be at the pole barn in Newberry, FL. The South Georgia Chapter SDC will participate in the meeting which will be on the first or second weekend in April. Stephen Cade is taking care of the arrangement. Bob Marsh indicated that he and his wife would be interested in hosting the November meeting.

New business was introduced. The West Tennessee Chapter will be sponsoring the Southeast Zone Meet in 2005. President Fifer received a letter from them requesting a commitment from Southeast Zone chapters to help with the meet. A copy of the letter will be published in the newsletter. A decision about NCFSDC support will be made at the January or February meeting.

Whether or not the NCFSDC should include advertisements of business cards in the newsletter to offset the cost of publication and mailing was discussed. President Fifer had seen this done by another club. One whole page of the newsletter was nothing but business cards. This will be discussed at a future meeting.

President Fifer also explained that Charlotte Delli has only been charging the club postage for publishing the newsletter. Knowing the cost of ink cartridges and other items for the newsletter, President Fifer recommended that an account be established to help with the cost of printing. It was unanimously agreed to do this by a voice vote.

The success of the brochures from the national club to promote Studebaker membership was discussed. It was recommended by President Fifer that each member carry two or three with them to car cruise-ins and shows. She will order more since the original 50 are almost gone.

With no further business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned to the annual holiday gift exchange. That is why George Matt was so happy he was the final person to select the model car that he so coveted. The Florida Gator shown below also was very popular and changed hands several times.
