North Central Florida Chapter of the Studebaker Drivers Club
Paul Oliver’s Home - Micanopy, Florida
Saturday May 5, 2001

Vice President Derwood Thompson called the meeting to order at 1:30pm. There were 27 members present. Thanks to all who helped with labeling and sealing he registration forms for the bulk mailing. It saved a few people many hours of boring work!!

Prior to the meeting Dr. Cade passed around a nice photo of two of his Studebakers parked in front of the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. It was part of the display for a charity fundraiser. Martha Cade showed the club a plaque it was awarded for ‘Club Participation’. Many club members made their way to the cruise in at the Burger King on NW 39th Avenue in Gainesville after the last meeting. There were a total of 8 Studebakers from our chapter at the cruise-in -- a nice show of force!!

Old Business

  • Martha Cade passed around samples of plaques for the club to see. The plaques were the kind with the picture insert on at the top. There will be mock-up trophies at the next meeting. Martha will handle the photography of the cars but wouldn’t mind some help.
  • VP Derwood submitted a letter from the SDC concerning the Studebaker coins to Editor Bob Marsh. The SDC requested that the info be published in the newsletter. The club agreed it was OK.
  • Danny Thomas informed the club that the half page state meet ad was submitted to Turning Wheels and all is go for the first run of the ad in the July issue.
  • No new news on the club shirts. Edith Fifer couldn’t make the meeting.
  • Bob Marsh has the state meet logo in the works and should have a sample for the next meeting.
  • The club discussed goodie bags and the consensus was that we still need things. Martha contributed numerous copies of a map & points of interests in the Gainesville for the bags.

    New Business
  • Norm & Carol Burgess will handle raffle car ticket sales.
  • Finally the club has it’s raffle car! Well, at least we know ‘what’ and ‘where’ it is. It’s a 1962 Lark V-8 4 door and it’s in Halstead, Kansas. It needs a little TLC though. It seem the car rolled once in a snow bank and did some damage to the roof. The car will get a little body work and a paint job. It will not be restored to be a “show winner” but will make a nice driver and the winner may do with it as he/she pleases. Stephen is wanting to make it a club project and members can contribute to help make the car presentable. This discussion led to the location of our next meeting.
  • The club discussed the parking situation at the Doubletree. Derwood seems to think there will be at least 100 cars at the state meet. These cars will be in the SW corner of the parking lot. Derwood will have to go and look at the area at little more closely to know what will be the best set up to accommodate the numbers.
  • Carol Burgess wanted to let the club know that Edith Fifer has received it’s first registration for the state meet!!
  • The minutes of the last meeting were approved and put into record

    Treasury Report

The club has a balance of $xx.xx in bank (less bills for the newsletter which will run around $xx.xx. Speaking of the newsletter... members please keep your addresses current with Bari Thelin or Bob Marsh. It seems Bob has had some newsletters come back to him undeliverable.
    Meeting Dates

The 1962 Lark will be at the pole barn in Newberry by the next meeting and it would be a good time to see what needs to be done to her. So, our next meeting will be held at Dr. Cades pole barn in Newberry on Saturday June 16th at 12:00pm. The Delli’s will provide food and drink. Bring a folding chair!!

The July meeting date and location is tentatively set for Sunday July 8th at 1:00pm in McIntosh at Grandmas Country Cafe. Bari Thelin will look into the cafe a little more and will report at the next meeting.

    Meeting was adjourned at 2:15pm
