North Central Florida Chapter of the SDC Minutes

President Stephen Cade called the meeting to order at 2:20 pm and club was reacquainted. Only 13 members present.
Corrections to Minutes
Some car classes for the state meet were left out of the last minutes. After the club discussed this, other changes were made and are as follows:
- A Packard class was added
- 1953-56 C-K
- 1957-61 C-K
- 1963-64 Avanti
- 1965-85 Avanti
- 1985-present Avanti
- A commercial truck class was added
Essentially 1953-56 C-K cars were split into two classes & Avanti split into three. This will bring the total number of car classes to 17. It is possible there will be more or classes added during the meet depending on turnout.
Also, the last minutes failed to report there will be 3rd place trophies awarded at the state meet in October
Old Business
- State Meet Ad in Turning Wheels
The ad was approved and will appear in the June & August issues of Turning Wheels at no costs to the club. TW provides a full page of advertising per club - per year for events such as this. The club will use the full page between the two ads, each a half page. An ad copy will be included in the next newsletter
- Club Shirts
Edith Fifer brought shirt samples for the club to look at. There will be a minimum order of 50 shirts required plus the $50.00 digitizing fee. After some discussion on the matter, it was decided to move ahead with the project and t take orders. Extra shirts were ordered in various sizes and will be available for purchase at the next meeting. The shirts are a golf style white shirt with or without a pocket and are $17.95 each. The club will cut a check for the shirts and in turn will sell the shirts to members.
State Meet Shirt
Bob Marsh is working on a design for the state meet shirt. It has an outline of Florida with Studebakers approaching Gainesville from different directions.
The club voted not to solicit moneys from businesses in turn for ad space on the back of the state meet shirt.
New Business
- Trophies and Dash Plaques
The club discussed trophies and Danny Thomas provided prices for trophies & plaques from Florida Awards & Trophies. The styles varied and prices ranged from $8.20 to $18.00 per unit. After much discussion it was decided that the first place winner would receive a trophy and the second & third place winners will receive a plaque. Samples will be brought in at the next meeting.
Dash plaques will cost $1.25 each. An estimated quantity of 125 will be needed for goodie bags.
- Martha Cade showed the club examples of what will go in goodie bags. There will be no committee formed to take care of this. It will be the responsibility of individual club members to help contribute to the cause.
- Door prizes & goodie bag materials will be stored at Roger & Barry Thelin’s house until the state meet. Please bring what you have to the monthly meetings and they will take care of the rest.
- David Lumpkins suggested that a map of the Gainesville area be sent to those that pre register for the event - The motion carried. The map/points of interest brochure was provided by Martha Cade and was found at the Alachua County Welcome Center.
- There will be a mailing to all members of the SDC in the state of Florida, south Georgia & Alabama in mid May. The mailing will consist of a registration form and info concerning the state meet. Stephen Cade will call the SDC Texas office and have them send pre-printed labels of these members to do the mailing. On the registration it will be suggested that all entries must have a fire extinguisher in the car
- Martha Cade will handle judging sheets for the windshields of cars
- Norman Burgess will handle the raffle car ticket sales.
